Preparing for Christmas Minis

Yesterday, the kids, my husband and I drove down to visit the Rose Farm in Norwalk, Iowa. This is the location I booked for Christmas Minis on December 18th, purely based on what I had seen on instagram haha, but I really wanted to see it in-person prior! It also worked in our favor too because we got to see the area and photograph it with the remaining snow everywhere!!

I really needed some updated Christmas photos of my own kids so I got together a few outfits for them and we headed on our way. The drive down was absolutely beautiful. We had been to this area before to go to Mayor Tom Becker Park, but I hadn't seen it all after a snowfall. While we love our life in the suburbs now the Cumming/Norwalk area seems like such a beautiful area to live for a little more space... maybe one day! ;)

We arrived to the Rose Farm and were welcomed onto the gorgeous property by the cutest cats and the sound of chickens hah! It was one of the coldest days of the season with a "feels like" in the single digits and teens, but we were able to create some beautiful photos in a short amount of time!! This is why I really do think minis are such a great time frame for anyone, especially in the less than freezing temps!

I'm going to admit something I bet other photographers can relate to... photographing my own kids is usually a task. If you're reading this and considering a family session with me then please know, no matter what happens at your session, your kids are so much easier to photograph than mine have been at time haha!

But surprisingly, yesterday they did great!! Was it likely that they were bribed with the promise of a treat in the form of a Krispy Kreme doughnut or Chick-fil-A Milkshake and not some new personal growth? Yes. But that doesn't matter because... look at these photos!! ❤️

So What Should You Wear?

In my December mini session we won't have time for wardrobe changes unless you reserve two spots. But for my time with the kids I did PJs and Sweaters just to see! Since I'm hoping to not give them their matching Christmas ones until closer to Christmas Eve I brought Blakely's favorite CFA PJs to test a few shots haha. She loved wearing them with her boots!

For your mini, I would honestly just be flexible in deciding on wardrobe and have several options pending weather, but with this setting you really can't go wrong doing Christmas dressy, casual, or PJs!

Speaking of the setting..

While the kids took a break to warm up before changing I photographed more of the area. Seriously it's absolutely dreamy. I wish I would have had access to something like this back in North Carolina. I'm hoping to head back here each season for a day of minis so if Christmas isn't your thing stay tuned in 2023 :)

Want a session?!
