Similar Beginnings..
I have a camera in my hand. It's golden hour. I have my sweet daughter at a covered bridge with a vintage camera in her hands. It's a really weird, joyful and wildly sentimental feeling to create these photos.
In North Carolina, there was a covered bridge close to our home. We were a young family. I was pregnant with my son during my senior year of high school in 2010, and my husband and I were married that next year. There wasn't a ton to do where we were from especially on the budget a super young family had.
I desired something for "me" and that quickly became photography. I liked to practice my skills with my oldest son when he was young sometimes at the covered bridge. When I started my photography business in 2012, I began to take clients the that same park and covered bridge too. When I needed a cover for my photography workshop guide for moms I used a photo of my son holding one of my vintage cameras.
Now it's 2022 and our lives are so different. I built a thriving photography business in NC, but after the birth of our daughter in 2017 we realized there was another goal we wanted to pursue. Our family moved to the Des Moines once in 2018, then made over 15 cross country moves in two years. Finally, in 2021 we found ourselves ready to settle back here in Waukee.
Now, we are making one more move next month. We are moving to a house right down the road from our current apartment. I couldn't believe it when I saw this adorable red covered bridge SO close to our new house here in Iowa! I knew I had to get some photos of my daughter there.
The past few years have felt so fast for our family with moving all around. Our things, decor, hobbies, even my beloved photography profession seemed to all get put into boxes for a bit while we moved around. And that's okay because it's what we prayed for and what was needed for that season.
However, I'm really enjoying the life that we're building here in Iowa now and all that may come along with that. I'm excited to take photos of our life, my kids and hopefully of some other people soon too! ☺️
