Hey friend..

Do you have a DSLR or Mirrorless camera that you bought to capture the world around you with?

Are you struggling with the settings, unsure of how to really photograph what you're actually seeing?

Ready to choose your own settings instead of letting the camera decided for you?

Tired of letting the cameras or lenses you invested in set on a shelf and collect dust?

I get it. I've been there too.

Below, there's a photo of my son.

He's totally cute, but WHEW. I took this and thought I was the next great portrait sensation.

They say you look a photo and remember how you felt in that moment and here's how I felt: stressed and obsessed.

I was obsessed with recreating what I had seen those professional photographers at big chain stores do.

They would have a neutral background.... I had a dark brown blanket + chair to mimic this.

AND they would have flashes going off everywhere... My camera agreed and popped up the dinky little one on top of my camera.

I was stressed that he wouldn't really look at me and didn't seem to like sitting in the chair!!!

It wasn't what I envisioned either. I wanted a photo that captured him, his spirit, but I didn't know how to make that work!

But the photo of my daughter sticking her tongue out at me and you?

That's what I envisioned all those years ago, and luckily, my son has many better pictures like hers too haha!!

What's crazy is I shot the photo of my son on a more expensive camera than the one of my daughter... the difference?

Knowing how to find great light anywhere and using it well!

Knowing my camera and bossing it around vs. the other way around!

Understanding the "rules" of photography and using them to capture my kids true personalities!

2011 - When I first picked up my expensive and fancy camera (DSLR)

2022 - Taken on a camera that isn't as big or fancy...but now I have the knowledge to do better!

Asheville, NC + Biltmore Engagement

Such an informal vlog of a session with my brother-in-law, sister-in-law and my husband as my assistant. Documenting the mandatory oil change before the drive to the session, being locked out of the fanciest McDonalds', the boys trying to "smize" and everything photography in-between!
